Typically a Reiki session for your dog would last between 30 and 50 mins, depending on your dog's individual needs – your dog will decide how the treatment should be for them.
The treatment should be carried out in a quiet room in your house, that your dog is familiar with and with possibly their own blanket or bed so they feel comfortable.
Depending on the nature of your dog and its’ issues the Reiki treatment will be carried out either hands-on or hands-off, both are very effective. Usually, the treatment starts at the head and works over the traditional chakra points, again your dog will guide me to where they want the Reiki.
There is no pressure applied or manipulation during a Reiki treatment.
There is no rigidly set routine for Reiki treatments – each one is individual and unique
After your dog has had a Reiki treatment they may be quiet and sleepy, depending on the individual dog they may even sleep more the next day, again every dog responds differently to Reiki.
As Reiki helps to bring about calmness and relaxation it can be useful for dogs that find certain situations stressful, such as visiting the Vets, travelling in the car, issues and concerns with being separated from their owners especially now post covid and we’re not working at home as much.
Rescue dogs often have problems caused by neglect and abuse that can be helped by Reiki, as can dogs whose owners have died and they have been re-homed and are struggling with unfamiliar surroundings and people. Dogs suffering from the effects of fireworks can find comfort with Reiki also.
Reiki helps to promote healing as the state of relaxation and calmness helps blood to flow more efficiently allowing it to become more oxygenated, helping post-surgery, healing injuries and helping to support the immune system.
Reiki is a complementary treatment, not an alternative treatment, and does not replace Veterinary Care. It works well alongside Veterinary care but if in any doubt seek advice from your Vet.
A typical Reiki session for you will last between 30 and 50 mins, including a consultation. I have my own treatment room or I can travel to you. In your home, you will need a quiet room where I can set up my table and power so I can play relaxing music for the treatment, if you have your own choice of music on CD that can be used.
I usually treat people lying down on their back, there is no need to remove any clothing, but if you have mobility issues the treatment can be carried out sitting down, whichever is most comfortable.
The treatment starts at the head and works over the Chakras using hands-on and off positions, I also use other more traditional hand positions if feel they are needed.
Everyone’s experience of Reiki is different and each treatment is different. Some people find it relaxing and feel as though they have slept through the treatment whilst others feel different sensations – hot, cold or tingling, images and memories may be brought to mind – all experiences are individual and different.
You may feel super calm, I would recommend drinking plenty of water, no alcohol, and taking things easy for 24 hours
Reiki brings about calmness, relaxation and helps to ease the tension which helps you both mentally and physically, giving a feeling of overall well-being.
If your horse or dog is feeling calmer and better through Reiki then why shouldn’t you?
