Reiki Treatment for your Horse

I usually treat horses in their own environment where they will comfortable – such as their stable or paddock, they may be tied up, you can hold them or however the horse is at ease with itself. Make sure that when you book you arrange a time that isn’t going to disrupt their routine. There is a consultation included, the first treatment will be taking a few particulars of your horse and a discussion about any concerns you have about your horse, follow up treatments will include progress notes.

What to expect during a treatment.

Most treatments last between 35 mins and an hour. Usually, the first treatment will be the shortest, as you can appreciate I can’t explain to your horse what they may feel and experience during treatment in the same way I can to you. Consequently, some horses may find it a bit more difficult to relax as this is an unfamiliar feeling to them.

In some cases, I use ‘a hands’ off approach as they respond better. There is no specific ‘set in stone’ routine to my treatments, your horse will determine what they want. I usually start at the head but if the horse is not happy with this approach I will move to the chest and shoulders, remember your horse is in control of the treatment. The treatment will cover all of your horse’s body and its Chakras.

How can you tell if your horse is receiving the Reiki?

Horses are very sensitive to Reiki and they display several different signs depending on the individual. Their breathing can alter – it can become much deeper or slow down and become soft, the lower lip can soften and droop in the sleep mode, the head nods, eyes close, ears twitch and droop, changing weight from resting hind legs, passing wind, making water and sometimes just staring fixedly ahead. When they’ve received enough Reiki they often arch their necks and stretch as if they’d just woken up.

Aftercare.

Make sure your horse has access to plenty of water and stick to its’ normal care routine, I wouldn’t advise ridding them that day and if they must be ridden the next day only a quiet hack out. You may find that they will sleep more after treatment.

How often should Reiki be used?

Depending on your horse and it’s needs it is recommended a course of 3 – 4 treatments at 14 and 21 days apart, if your horse has a major problem the treatments should be closer together, perhaps 2 per week. There after I would recommend a monthly treatment for maintenance purposes.

Benefits of Reiki for your horse

Reiki brings about a state of calmness and relaxation that helps to ease tension, ideal for nervous horses, horses that have changed yards and are finding it difficult to adjust to a new routine and environment, weaning time for both the mares and the foals, It can help horses to regain lost appetite.

Reiki helps to promote healing as the state of relaxation helps blood to flow more efficiently allowing it to become more oxygenated, helping post surgery, healing injuries and helping to support the immune system.

Reiki is a helpful treatment for ‘Competition Stress’ for both your horse and you.

I cannot diagnose, although I may be able to tell you the areas that your horse wanted Reiki the most. Reiki for your horse is a complementary treatment that can help with Veterinary care but is not a substitute for Veterinary care and diagnoses.
